NanOptima has developed NAAmatrix™, a proprietary bioresorbable Natural Amino-Acid matrix platform designed to address one of ophthalmology’s highest-value drug-delivery challenges: achieving durable, controlled intravitreal exposure beyond 3–6 months without introducing safety, device, or workflow burden.

Designed by ex-large pharma experts, NAAmatrix™ to deliver both NanOptima’s internal retinal pipeline and partner-owned ophthalmology assets. The platform has generated compelling >6monthly sustained-release data across approved biologics and small molecules, with in vivo intravitreal tolerability.

Its differentiation addresses the biggest challenges in ophthalmic drug delivery and clinical utility and update:  frictionless standard 30G injection, no implant, no surgery, no device, no curing, no drug modification, and no synthetic or PLGA material. In a field where long-acting approaches have repeatedly been limited by inflammation, adverse events, particulate risk, device burden, or adoption friction, NAAmatrix™ is engineered around safety, clearance, and clinical utility from the outset.

NanOptima is already under CDA with multiple global ophthalmology companies and is moving towards MTA feasibility studies. The company is now advancing ocular PK, sterile manufacturing, and IND-enabling work: near-term high value milestones designed to deliver the data package pharma partners are urgently requesting. Recent acquisitions and parenting deals range $1-3B.

This Investment Spotlight will explore the platform, development path, internal pipeline, and partnering opportunity with Sobha Sivaprasad (Moorfields Eye Hospital), Kevin Pritchard (CSO; former Head of Protein Sciences, AstraZeneca), Chris Doherty (SAB Chair; former VP, AstraZeneca / Roche / GSK), and Ned Wakeman (CEO).

NanOptima is raising £1-20m to take up through pharma partnering, high value near-term PK milestones, IND enabling work, and PhI clinical trials.

ClotProtect Therapeutics is developing a novel small molecule first-in-class approach to address acute bleeding, targeting an urgent and preventable cause of death: uncontrolled blood loss in major surgery, trauma, and post-partum haemorrhage.

Current standard-of-care antifibrinolytic therapy, tranexamic acid, acts indirectly and remains clinically limited in high-risk bleeding settings. ClotProtect is developing a direct inhibitor of the enzyme responsible for clot breakdown, with the aim of improving clot protection where rapid, predictable haemostasis is critical.

ClotProtect is a University of Leeds spin-out company backed by an Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant, Medicines Discovery Ventures, o2h Ventures and angel investors, currently in lead optimisation following identification of a quality lead series.  ClotProtect has generated compelling experimental data supporting the potential for a superior targeted and effective approach than the only standard-of-care indirect therapy, tranexamic acid (TXA).

ClotProtect’s team brings together experienced ex-pharma scientists, internationally recognised coagulation and clinical key opinion leaders (scientists and medics), and business leadership focused on advancing the programme through towards Phase 2a studies.

Clotprotect is raising £1-£10m to advance its lead asset towards first-in-humans clinical studies.
